A Message from the Provincial Umpire-in-Chief

Dear Umpire:

You may or may not have heard that at the 2016 Softball BC AGM the following motion was passed:

All umpires, age 18 and older, shall obtain a certified criminal record check and a vulnerable sector check, prior to umpiring any game, from the BC Provincial Government Criminal Records Review Programme (CRRP). The criminal record check and vulnerable sector check will be valid for duration of 3 years.

On behalf of Softball BC and the Board of Directors, I would like to thank you for your continued support of the umpires program, which contributes to the development of our game at all levels across the province.

In support of Softball BC’s Screening Policy for Member Organizations, Volunteers and Staff, which exists to promote the health, safety, and protection of participants of the game of softball in BC, while excluding from participation in its activities, all persons who have been convicted of felonies and crimes against persons, all member organizations have been provided with a guide for Criminal Record Checks.

The objective of the document is for Softball BC to provide our membership across British Columbia with the procedural guidelines and recommendations for best practices on complying with the Softball BC Screening Policy for Member Organizations, Volunteers, and Staff.

I thank you for your support and cooperation with this initiative, and I look forward to continuing our working relationship and implementing a shared vision, which supports the development of our game in BC.

Sincerely,
Jason Ranchoux,
Provinical Umpire-in-Chief, Softball BC
