Which Clinic Should I Register For?

Level 1 Certification Clinic = Brand new to umpiring or recertifying as a Level 1. Please complete both (1) Theory Clinic; plus (2) Mechanics Clinic. Umpires can complete the Mechanics Clinic prior to the Theory Clinic.

Level 2 Certification Clinic = At least one full season of umpiring and preferably to be 16 years of age or older. Please complete both (1) Theory Clinic; plus (2) Mechanics Clinic; OR, Combined Theory & Mechanics Clinic. Umpires can complete the Mechanics Clinic prior to the Theory Clinic.

Level 3 Certification Clinic = We hold a Level 3 clinic every other year (pending interest). We look forward to offering this clinic in 2027.

Level 4 & Level 5 = Softball Canada National Official Program

Part 1: Theory Clinic
Teaches rules of the game, the four elements, qualities of an umpire, handling confrontation, introduction to plate and base mechanics.

  • Level 1 Theory Clinic is offered online (self-paced). If you require in-person theory, please connect with your District UIC.
  • Level 2 Theory Clinics are offered Face-to-Face and online (live attendance).
 

Part 2: Mechanics Clinic
Teaches 1-umpire and 2-umpire positioning, plate and base mechanics, and signals. Mechanic Clinics are offered Face-to-Face (in-person). If you are not able to attend a mechanics clinic, please contact your District Umpire-in-Chief for options.

Level 1 Certification Clinics

Part 1: Level 1 Certification Clinic (Theory Clinic)

Complete the Level 1 Lessons 1 to 9 at https://softball.ca/programs/umpires/toolbox/instructor/online

Note: Once a lesson has been completed and the assessment at the end of the lesson has been completed successfully, an email will be sent to the umpire as well as your Provincial Umpire Committee and Softball Canada. After the last lesson, an email with a completion certificate will be emailed to the umpire to show at the Provincial Clinic to the instructors that all lessons are completed.
